Gounoko Haounaye, Cameroon's former Minister of Transport, died early on September 8, 2025, at the National Social Insurance Fund (CNPS) hospital in Essos, Yaoundé, following an illness. The announcement was made in an official statement by Minister of Transport Jean Ernest Masséna Ngalle Bibehe.
A high-ranking public official, Haounaye served as senior divisional officer for Logone-et-Chari in the Far North and later as Governor of the Littoral region before being appointed Minister of Transport. He also served as chairman of the board of the National Ports Authority (APN), strengthening his ties to the strategic infrastructure and logistics sector.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the former minister will be buried in his native village of Djengreng in the Wina district, located in the Mayo-Danay department of the Far North region. The burial will be a private family affair, held in accordance with Islamic rites.
In his statement, Jean Ernest Masséna Ngalle Bibehe expressed his "deepest condolences" to the grieving family on behalf of the entire transport sector. The tribute honored a man who navigated several levels of public administration and left a lasting mark on the sectors where he served.
