German air freight company Lufthansa Cargo has appointed Luc Frans G. Metdepenningen as the local representative of its Cameroon branch, according to a legal notice published in Cameroon Tribune. The appointment concerns a market where the carrier has offered cargo services through Brussels Airlines since 2018.
Metdepenningen also holds a representative role for Lufthansa Cargo in Belgium, where his name has appeared in official company records since 2018. According to the notice, several corporate documents from the German company were filed with Sandrine Mongoué, a notary in Douala, and subsequently with the registry of the Douala-Ndokoti Court of First Instance.
Lufthansa Cargo's Cameroon branch is registered at Boulevard de la Liberté in Douala's Akwa district under Trade and Personal Property Credit Register (RCCM) number RC/DLN/2020/B/2290. The entity is legally classified as a branch office of the German company. The notice does not specify when Metdepenningen's appointment took effect.
A Representative With Experience in Belgium and Africa
Metdepenningen has previous experience in African aviation. In July 2011, the Togolese newspaper L'Union identified him as Brussels Airlines' representative in Lomé. In an interview marking the Belgian airline's first anniversary of operations in Togo, he reviewed the company's commercial activities in the country. His role at Lufthansa Cargo is also documented in Belgium. A notice published in the Belgian Official Gazette on November 23, 2018, recorded his appointment as the German company's legal representative in Belgium, effective July 9 of that year.
Pappers Belgium, a legal information database updated on October 20, 2026, still lists him among the representatives of Lufthansa Cargo's Belgian branch. He appears alongside Abre Smit, whose appointment took effect on January 1, 2025. Metdepenningen's LinkedIn profile also confirms his affiliation with Lufthansa Cargo in Belgium, with his professional activity based in the Brussels area.
Douala and Yaoundé Have Been Served Since 2018
Lufthansa Cargo's commercial presence in Cameroon predates the latest appointment. On March 29, 2018, the German freight carrier and Brussels Airlines announced a cooperation agreement to market cargo capacity available in the Belgian airline's aircraft.
On August 16 of the same year, Brussels Airlines announced that bookings through Lufthansa Cargo would open for 15 additional African destinations, including Douala and Yaoundé, for shipments departing from September 1, 2018. The agreement allowed Lufthansa Cargo customers to ship goods in the cargo holds of Brussels Airlines aircraft. Cargo space was sold under Lufthansa Cargo air waybills, identified by the prefix 020. This arrangement enabled the German carrier to offer freight services to these destinations without necessarily operating its own dedicated cargo aircraft on the routes.
Douala International Airport and Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport remain listed in the network published on Lufthansa Cargo's official website. The company provides information on import and export cargo handling services at both airports, along with local commercial contacts.
