Members of the Councils of National Orders have been convening at the Unity Palace since April 22, tasked with identifying the most deserving individuals to receive the 3,200 national decorations authorized this year by President Paul Biya, the Grand Master of National Orders.
Specifically, the allocations include 300 insignia for the Order of Valor, 1,300 for the Order of Merit, 100 for Sports Merit, 200 for Agricultural Merit, 1,200 for the Public Force, and 50 for Bravery. According to state radio, the Council's work commenced with an address by Julien Ndoumba, the Secretary General of the Grand Chancellery of the National Orders, who announced the introduction of computerized application processing.
Beginning this year, candidates from the Center region and central government administrations in Cameroon will be enrolled online. The remaining regions of the country will follow suit next year, with diplomatic missions slated for integration in 2027. Ndoumba underscored the professionalism and confidentiality expected of Council members during the selection of recipients. The final list of honorees will be submitted to the Head of State on April 24 for final approval.
These medals will recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves through their contributions in their respective fields. The decoration ceremony is scheduled to take place during the national holiday on May 20, 2025.
