The Social Democratic Front (SDF) marked its 36th anniversary on May 26 with renewed calls for party mobilization and democratic change in Cameroon.

The opposition party used the anniversary to highlight themes of unity, hope and rebuilding trust, in line with the political struggle launched at its creation on May 26, 1990. In his message, SDF chairman Joshua Osih paid tribute to the party’s founder, Ni John Fru Ndi, who died three years ago. “I carry a sacred responsibility to honor his legacy not only with words, but through victory,” Osih said. “The greatest tribute we can pay him is to continue the fight he started and bring democratic change to the Cameroonian people.”

As part of that effort, Osih announced that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will meet June 13 in Bamenda. The meeting is expected to mark the start of a new nationwide mobilization strategy aimed at strengthening the party’s political structure, grassroots network and campaign organization ahead of future elections.

Osih described the initiative as a “campaign locomotive for electoral success.” The SDF leader also urged party members to strengthen discipline and organization. “We must work harder, organize ourselves better and move forward faster together, with discipline, solidarity and unwavering commitment to our party and our nation,” he said.

Osih also appealed to young people, women and vulnerable groups, encouraging them to register massively on electoral rolls ahead of upcoming municipal and legislative elections. “Cameroon needs fresh blood to rebuild this nation, new energy, new ideas and new leadership,” he said. “And that fresh blood is you.”

Through the anniversary event, the SDF appears determined to turn a symbolic milestone into a broader political relaunch as party mobilization and election preparation return to the center of its strategy.
